The meeting with the Chippewa County Highway committee was July 27th at 8 am. The Town of Tilden requested they drop the proposed project of placing turning lanes on County S where it intersects with County Q. We feel it will make a bad situation more dangerous. There are many school buses and children that pass through that intersection. Anyone who uses that way to get to Chippewa Falls, knows what we are talking about.
What we learned was:
The studies for that intersection indicated that a roundabout was the best solution. However, there were not enough fatalities to warrant a 1.2 million dollar roundabout. Therefore the turning lanes were recommended. This was being funded through a federal monies project at a cost of $500,000 for the Chippewa County taxpayers. The Federal portion is capped at $300,000. Once this project is pulled from that program, it will have less strings attached, but we must still find funding. It will be 2020 before this project will move forward.
At this time, the committee members agreed to pull the project. They also use that intersection and understand our concerns. Eau Claire County will then get the monies associated with this project. At least it will stay in the area.
We thank those citizens who took the time to come and to those who testifid. We will keep citizens updated when we can.
